Snakes are intriguing, mystifying, gorgeous creatures that have invoked fear and awe in humans since time immemorial. Stories abound and it is embedded in our folklore and mythology. But do we really know them? Come learn about 8 of these highly misunderstood but fascinating reptiles that make their home in our city.
People have a lot of issues with snakes and there is always an element of fear and awe amongst kids. With more and more urbanization humans are coming in contact with snakes and conflict is increasing. There is a need to educate children about the kinds of snakes that live in Coimbatore as well as the fact that not all snakes are venomous. Even if they are, they are not out to get you! To evoke a sense of wonder in kids we will be teaching them about the various adaptations of snakes.
Objective
The objective of this session is to educate children about snakes to help reduce fear and to show them the differences between 4 venomous and 4 non venomous snakes that are found in Coimbatore city. They would also learn about snake adaptations such as what makes them reptiles, role a forked tongue plays, how they eat and grow, how they move and why some of them use pits.
